Rainbow Cupcakes

Description

I was really curious about how people made rainbow cupcakes, so I decided to try it out myself~

[EDIT]

Due to people asking how it's made, I'll give you guys the recipe.

First, you have to make a plain vanilla batter. Here's the one I usually make:

:star:Plain Vanilla Batter:star:

You'll need:

:bulletblue:3 large eggs (separate white and yolk)
:bulletblue:1 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
:bulletblue:3/4 cup unsalted butter
:bulletblue:1 cup milk
:bulletblue:3 cups all purpose flour
:bulletblue:2 teaspoons baking powder
:bulletblue:1 teaspoon vanilla essence

:bulletpink: In a bowl, whip the egg whites. You want them to be really fluffy, so don't be lazy!
:bulletpink: In another bowl, mix the egg yolks, the sugar and the butter. Beat until it becomes even and light-coloured (it may be light yellow or even white, depending on the eggs you used).
:bulletpink: Slowly add the flour and the milk to the mixture. Don't add it all at once, it'll ruin the recipe and get you kitchen all dirty! It's best to alternate the ingredients and beat well between steps.
:bulletpink: Add the vanilla essence and the baking powder to the mixture.
:bulletpink: If you were using a electric beater, change to a hand mixer or whisk. Carefully mix the previously whisked egg whites with the rest of the ingredients. Do it slowly! You want the batter to be even, but don't use the electric mixer, or you'll ruin your pevious work.

Doing a normal cake, you'd stop at this point and take it to the oven, but as we're baking rainbow cupcakes, there are a few more steps. They may take quite a while, but are simple and easy.

:star:Making your plain batter into Rainbow Batter:star:

You'll need:

:bulletpurple: Food colorants (red, blue and yellow)

:bulletyellow: First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C) and get you muffin cups and paper liners ready. I can't remember how many cupcakes this recipe makes, sorry.
:bulletyellow: Divide the vanilla batter you've just made in six different bowls and put a different food colorant tone in each one of them. For some colors, you'll have to mix more than one colorant tone:

    ~Red: red colorant
    ~Orange: red+yellow colorants
    ~Yellow: yellow colorant
    ~Light Green: yellow+blue colorants in 3:1 proportion
    ~Green: yellow+blue colorants in 1:1 proportion
    ~Blue: blue colorant
    ~Violet: blue+red colorants

(Please notice that I used six, not seven colors, because you'll not be able to tell light and dark blue apart after the cupcakes are baked, but feel free to add any other colors you want, even if they're not exactly rainbow colors. In my cupcakes, I used pink colorant)

:bulletyellow: Layer all the colors in the cupcake liners in the same order as they're disposed in a rainbow. It may take some practice to get the right amount of each color so the layers are even, but you'll eventually get it.
:bulletyellow: Bake your cupcakes! It usually takes about 20 minutes for them to get properly baked, but it's best to observe them regularly in order to prevent them from burning. If you think they're ready, open the oven (but don't do it before 10 minutes have passed since you put them inside, or they'll stop growing up!) and pierce them with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, with no raw batter, the cupcakes are ready.

:star:Topping your cupcakes:star:

Topping is a personal decision, really. I'm presonally not a big fan of buttercream, but if you like it, go ahead! For my rainbow cupcakes, I used whipped cream. Decorate your cupcakes as much as you want, the prettier they look, the best!
I'm not going to give you any topping recipe, but you can easily find them in cooking books and websites, just look for it!

Thank you for reading this. I hope you enjoy making your rainbow cupcakes as much as I did with mine
Oh, and feel free to comment and/or send me a photo if you make them, I'd love to see it!
